Jingle Bell 5K set for Oil City

From staff reports

The Oil City Main Street Program’s annual “Jingle Bell Run” 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Dec. 2.

The event is held in conjunction with Oil City’s 23rd Annual Christmas Past event, scheduled Dec. 1-3 in various downtown locations. Cost to participate is $30. T-shirts will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

The event includes guest appearances by both Santa and the Grinch, and begins with a free kid’s race at 8:45 a.m. at Town Square, with fun prizes for participation.

The 5K race will start at 9 a.m. at Seneca Street, near Town Square, and proceed over Veterans Memorial Bridge, turn right onto Front Street, continue along Front Street just past the Oil City Marina, then turn around and return along the same route.

Portions of Seneca Street, Sycamore Street, Veterans Memorial Bridge and Front Street will be partially or fully closed to vehicles during the race; motorists are asked to drive slowly while in the race vicinity.

Registration will be held at the Oil City Elks Lodge, 111 Sycamore St., beginning at 8 a.m., with awards for runners and walkers in the same location after the race.

“The Jingle Bell 5K is a festive tradition during Oil City’s Christmas Past,” race director Rebekah Deal said. “It’s fun to see the runners and walkers in all their holiday gear — we see everything from snowmen to gingerbread, elves and more.

“We encourage everyone to dress in their festive gear and come out to walk, run or just watch and cheer from the sidelines, as we all make our way through the streets of Oil City.”

Participants can register at runsignup.com/Race/PA/OilCity/OCJingleBellRun5k.

Proceeds benefit the revitalization efforts of the Oil City Main Street Program.
