Man accused of beating 2 people with bat

A Franklin man is facing charges for beating two people with a baseball bat in Franklin.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint that at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Gabriel Antramgarza, 19, assaulted the man and woman in the 400 block of 11th Street.

Police made contact with the pair and noted that the man was bleeding from a laceration to his head, which was also swollen, the complaint said. He also had bruising and other injuries to his back, ribs and shoulders, the complaint said.

The woman had swelling and redness to her collarbone, according to the complaint.

The pair were taken by Community Ambulance Service to UPMC Northwest for treatment, the complaint said.

Police located Antramgarza at his residence and recovered the baseball bat, according to the complaint.

Antramgarza told police he believed the man and woman were flashing a gun at him and yelling and he said he went after them and struck them with the bat, the complaint said.

Police said that after further investigation they determined neither the man or woman had a gun, the complaint said.

Antramgarza was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault-attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference and a misdemeanor count of possession of instrument of crime with intent.

He was arraigned Thursday and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
