OC Library steps up exterior

Reginald Rice, of Rouseville, looks toward the new artwork on the steps of the Oil City Library as he exits the library Friday afternoon. Marcy Hall Art of Oil City painted the steps with whimsical, colorful renditions of the spines of popular books. The artwork is permanent, and the project was inspired by a trend in public buildings of painting book spines on their steps, said Oil City librarian Emily Antkowiak. “We loved the idea and wanted to bring it here,” Antkowiak said. The books were selected by public vote from four categories — adult, juvenile, children’s and picture books. “We had over 600 votes, so people were definitely excited about it,” librarian Natalie Cubbon said.
