Nifty at 90: Emlenton woman has fond memories of roller-skating at Hasson Heights

The Nifty at 90 series spotlights Joanne Mae (Burnside) Burke of Emlenton, who turns 90 this year. Born in 1935 in Endeavor, she grew up on a family farm, enjoyed school and music, and dreamed of becoming a nurse. After graduating from Hunter Memorial School, she attended the Oil City School of Nursing, later working in several hospitals. Joanne married Harold Burke in 1957, and together they raised six children in Emlenton while staying active in their church, community, and square dance club. A devoted mother, Girl Scout leader, and Bible study host, Joanne’s life has been marked by faith, family, and service. Her loved ones recently gathered from several states to celebrate her milestone 90th birthday.
