North Clarion superintendent’s contract extended

The North Clarion School Board voted unanimously to extend Superintendent Steve Young’s contract for five years, keeping all current conditions in place and tying his salary to the teachers’ contract. The board also approved a memorandum of agreement on insurance coverage, though the union has yet to sign off. In other news, the Mayfest Community Association donated \$6,150 to the North Clarion Foundation in honor of Grace Carroll, a junior recently cleared of Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma, with proceeds supporting athletic programs. The group also gifted \$250 for sporting items on the first day of school. Additional board actions included approving student participation in the annual pheasant hunt at Buzzard’s Swamp on Oct. 29 and scheduling the Farm to School event for Sept. 23 at the elementary school, expected to draw hundreds of attendees. The board’s next work session is Oct. 6, with its regular meeting Oct. 13.
