Northwest Commission director named to Shapiro committee

From staff reports

Jill Foys, executive director of the Oil City-based Northwest Commission, has been asked to join the Economic Development Transition Advisory Committee created by Pennsylvania governor-elect Josh Shapiro.

The committee will advise Shapiro’s transition team on a wide array of policy areas designed to help move the state forward.

Among the items at the top of Shapiro’s priorities are growing the economy, making communities safer and ensuring all Pennsylvania students receive a high-quality education.

Foys will serve on the transition committee’s business development subcommittee, which she says “is an impressive group of business leaders and policy experts, and I feel privileged to be included.”

“As a representative of rural Pennsylvania, I am honored to be a part of conversations that will shape (Shapiro’s) policies and programs,” Foys added.

The Northwest Commission serves as a regional-based resource for business and economic development as well as community development and planning to eight counties in northwest Pennsylvania.
