OC Christ Episcopal pajama collection underway

From staff reports

The annual pajama collection project is up and running for the 12th year at Christ Episcopal Church in Oil City.

The pajama project, known as For Every Child a Good Night, collects pajamas from church and community members to be distributed to Oil City and Cranberry schools, Community Services of Venango County and Family Service and Children’s Aid Society.

From now through about Dec. 10, the church will gather new sleepwear in infant through adult sizes.

The pajamas are wrapped with an age-appropriate book before being given out.

In keeping with the church’s mission, there are no administrative fees, taxes or charitable giving forms. All donors need to do is donate a new set of pajamas or cash to buy new books.

“Many children have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a loving adult tuck them in at night with warm, clean pajamas and a bedtime story,” Sarah Margherio, the program founder, said.

“The simple gift of pajamas and a book let children know that someone cares,” Margherio added. “Over the years, this program has more than tripled the number of sets being distributed. It is wonderful to know that so many people see the importance of children having books and pajamas.”

New pajamas or cash donations may be dropped off at Christ Episcopal Church, 16 Central Ave. in Oil City, or the Margherio home at 552 Bouquin Circle.
