St. Joseph Church back to school community night out

Visitors to St. Joseph Church’s second annual Back-To-School Community Night Out on Monday pick out free school supplies from a table manned by parishioners Mary Ellen Hynes, left, and Gloria Stevens, center.

Just over 100 children from the community got to pick out school supplies and enjoy some fun at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oil City on Monday evening.

The second annual Back-To-School Community Night Out, held in the church parking lot and lawn, featured school supplies donated by the parishioners of St. Joseph and the Life Center of Franklin, toothbrushes and toothpaste from Kulinski Dental in Reno, and the chance to pot a plant to take home, courtesy of Park Avenue Greenhouse in Oil City.

Books were among the donated items available for the kids, and the event also offered hot dogs, chips, popcorn and cotton candy.

And visitors also had the chance to meet a llama, courtesy of one of the St. Joseph parishioners.

Parents and children were invited into the church if they wished to light candles and offer prayers for the upcoming school year.

The event was sponsored by Pennsylvanians for Human Life and St. Joseph Parish.
