Oil City Relay For Life raises nearly $100,000

From staff reports

The Venango County Relay For Life raised $99,304 on June 1, with 34 teams participating in a walk at the Oil City High School track field, according to a news release.

The theme was We Waved Goodbye to Cancer. Chris Latchaw, a volunteer at the event, said “over 100 survivors and caregivers braved the rain” to attend the Cancer Survivors Celebration Dinner that also took place at the track. Team Hayes Rays of Hope placed first in the campsite decorating, Latchaw said.

The luminaria ceremony was canceled in the evening because of approaching storms. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Bandstand Park in Franklin. A survivor/caregiver lap and first responders lap will also be held.

For those who dedicated luminaries to loved ones, the lights will be displayed along the walkways of the park.
