Oil Region Ballet to perform ‘Wizard of Oz’ this weekend

The Oil Region Ballet will perform a ballet based on “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday and Saturday at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Based on the children’s classic written by L. Frank Baum, the central characters are played by the following dancers: Molly Carswell, Dorothy; Rebecca Devine, Aunt Em; Adam Devine, Uncle Henry; Marley Plowman, Toto; Sylvia Cagle, the Good Witch of the North; Caleb Waybright, the Wizard of Oz; Christopher Warner, Scarecrow; Cole Devine, Tin Woodman; Ethan Baker, Cowardly Lion; and Justus Lind, the Wicked Witch of the West.

In addition to the main cast, Rachel Brunot, Isabella Baker, Eden Criado, Kennedy Dawson, Bellina Devine, Lillian Devine, Addisyn Edwards, Londyn Fink, Audrey Frazier, Lillian Hild, Elizabeth Hyatt, Quinlyn Karns, Kherington Kase, Addison Murphy, Lucy Murphy, Emary Pentz, Morgan Sleet, Sophia Sobina, Josie Stout, Madolyn Williams and Abigail Williams will take the stage as many characters throughout the show.

Special guests include Lilly Burkhardt, Louisa Braughler, Frankie Fink, Sohpia Knauff, Maryan See and Sarina Svirbly as little ballet dancers.

Deborah Femovich, the Oil Region Ballet’s executive and artistic director, was assisted in putting together the choreography by Sylvia Cagle, Megan Davis and Victoria Stachelrodt.

The costume creations are the result of work by Tina Borger as well as costumers Femovich and Lisa Geer.

Scenic designer David Comiske, lighting engineer Gary Dittman and graphic artist Collins Femovich worked together in other aspects of visual production.
