Reno boil water advisory issued

Customers of the Venango Water Company in Reno are under a boil water advisory.

The boil water advisory due to the presence of bacteria was sent out by Aqua Pennsylvania, the company operating the water system, on Monday.

Aqua is advising customers of the Venango Water Company “to use boiled water or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.”

On Sunday, bulk water was delivered to the Venango Water Company and tested according to the Environment Protection Agency standards, the advisory said.

Monday, when the results of the test came back, Aqua issued a boil water advisory “due the presence of coliform bacteria in initial samples collected from bulk water trucks that supplement water supply in the system. Aqua is issuing this notice out of an abundance of caution as additional samples are being collected,” according to an email sent to customers.

“Although disinfectant levels were within acceptable limits, Aqua is actively working to resolve the issue and is collecting more water samples to ensure the water meets all drinking water standards,” the boil water advisory said.
