State police announces safety precautions over holidays

State transportation and safety officials are urging motorists to buckle up, stay sober, and avoid distractions as Operation Safe Holiday continues. The campaign, which includes Thanksgiving “Click It or Ticket” enforcement and impaired-driving patrols through Jan. 1, will feature sobriety checkpoints and increased traffic oversight. Last year’s holiday travel period saw more than 1,100 alcohol- and drug-related crashes statewide, resulting in dozens of deaths and hundreds of serious injuries. With roughly 3.4 million drivers expected on the Pennsylvania Turnpike through Sunday, officials advise travelers to stay alert and call *11 for assistance with emergencies, debris, or disabled vehicles.
