Two dogs died in a fire Monday morning at a Moran Street home in Oil City.

The blaze broke out at about 10:35 a.m. at 315 Moran, and Oil City Fire Department captain John Rodgers said firefighters found “a two-story wood frame with smoke and fire pouring out of the kitchen window” when they arrived on the scene.

The blaze started in the kitchen and burned the whole kitchen, said Rodgers, who added that the fire originated because a refrigerator was plugged into a power strip.

“You’re not supposed to plug refrigerators, air conditioners or anything that draws a lot of amps into power strips,” he said.

There was significant smoke damage throughout the house, Rodgers said.

The dogs weren’t able to escape safely from the home, and no one else was inside the residence.

The Red Cross is taking care of the family, Rodgers said.

Franklin firefighters, Seneca volunteer firefighters and Community Ambulance Service assisted Oil City firefighters at the scene, Rodgers said.

Rodgers also noted that seven off duty Oil City firefighters were called in to help.
