Valley Grove receives clean audit report for 2022-23 school year

Valley Grove School Board members heard a report from certified public accountant Mark Turnley about the district’s financial records for the 2022-23 school year during the panel’s meeting Monday.

In an email sent to the newspaper, business manager Jon Stewart said the district received a clean audit report.

In an audit summary, Turnley said total revenues increased by $1,182,428 in 2022-23 to $16,257,720.

The summary states that “the most notable increases in revenues for the 2022-23 fiscal year were an increase in state subsidies totaling $832,555 and an increase in interest earnings of approximately $282,000 over the 2021-22 fiscal year.”

The total expenses, according to the summary, increased by $532,142 for the 2022-23 year to $16,345,451.

The summary states that the main increase in spending over the pervious fiscal year came from pre-K instruction costs, which increased $225,677; and operation and maintenance of plant services, which increased $143,371.

The district’s total deficit for the 2022-23 school year was $87,731, down from the $738,017 deficit for the 2021-22 school year.

Superintendent Kevin Briggs said Tuesday he is “very pleased” with the audit report and that “I’m sure the board is pleased with it as well.”

No decisions were made Monday regarding the audit report.
