Veterans ceremonies planned at PennWest Clarion, OC campuses

From staff reports

Next week has been designated Military and Veterans Appreciation Week at Pennsylvania Western University, and ceremonies to mark Veterans Day have been planned at PennWest-Clarion campuses in Clarion and Oil City.

Clarion ROTC cadets will conduct an outdoor flag-raising event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, outside Suites on Main on the Clarion campus.

That will be followed at 9 a.m. by a community breakfast in Eagle Commons at 840 Wood St. in Clarion.

The breakfast is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.

State Rep. R. Lee James of Oil City, a U.S. Navy veteran who holds degrees from Clarion, will be the keynote speaker.

Meanwhile, the annual veterans program at PennWest-Clarion’s Venango campus in Oil City will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in the Rhoades Center auditorium.

The theme is “A Remembrance of Service — Saluting Our Veterans,” which builds upon the traditional Flags for the Fallen observance that has been held for a number of years at the Venango campus.
