About 20 volunteers gathered Sunday at Tionesta Lake to cut and pile alder in an effort to improve wildlife habitat and encourage new growth. Volunteers from groups including the Ruffed Grouse Society and American Woodcock Society worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to create brush piles and promote alder regrowth that will benefit species such as woodcock, ruffed grouse, rabbits and foxes, with habitat improvements expected to last 20 to 30 years.
