2 accused of stealing nearly $26,000 from elderly woman

Two Franklin women are facing charges for stealing nearly $26,000 from an elderly woman over several years.

Sugarcreek Borough police said Lucinda Irwin, 63, and Christina Vanhorn, 39, received a debit card from the woman with the agreement the card would be used to pay specific bills and would also be used for specific, authorized purposes.

But between December 2020 and this month, Irwin and Vanhorn used the debit card at multiple establishments and food places, and for ATM withdrawals and online gambling, among other things, police said.

The woman spent a total of $25,843 in these unauthorized purchases, according to police.

The elderly woman ended up facing eviction due to her lack of funds, police said.

Both Irwin and Vanhorn were charged with felony counts of financial exploitation of an elderly or care dependent person, conspiracy to commit financial exploitation of an elderly or care dependent person, theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking, access device fraud and conspiracy to commit access device fraud.
