2 charged for abandoning elderly woman for long periods

From staff reports

A Franklin man and woman are facing charges for abandoning an elderly woman, who they were responsible of taking care of, for significant periods of time.

Sugarcreek Borough police said the woman told them that Montice Robinson, 39, and Steven Bickel, 38, left her alone without the ability to care for herself.

Robinson and Bickel also took and used her car without being authorized to do so, and the elderly woman even told them, “No,” police said.

Robinson and Bickel were seen operating the vehicle after law enforcement forced them to turn over the key to the woman’s car, police said.

While in the woman’s apartment, Robinson and Bickel are alleged to have orchestrated an effort to remove the woman’s purse from her presence, police said.

A total of $500 was then stolen from the woman, and Robinson and Bickel were alleged to have taken the $50 the woman had set aside to do her laundry, police said.

Robinson and Bickel were charged with felony counts of endangering the welfare of a care dependent person, theft by unlawful taking (automobile) and conspiracy, misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking (money) and conspiracy, and a summary count of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.

Police are asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of Robinson and Bickel to call Sugarcreek Borough police at (814) 437-3703.

Robinson had also been scheduled to appear in Venango County court on Monday for sentencing in four prior cases.
