A Liberty Street home in Franklin was destroyed by fire Monday evening.

The blaze started at about 6:30 p.m. at the residence at 109 Liberty.

Smoke bellowed from the broken windows in the front of the home as firefighters periodically extinguished small fires that reignited in the second story of the home.

Firefighters leaned their axes and pikes against a trampoline in the front yard that had its fabric melted from the heat of the fire as they cleared the building.

A crowd of people watched as firefighters worked on the house, and neighbors preemptively removed pets from adjacent homes.

It was not known later Monday evening whether anyone was injured, but Venango County 911 said there were no reports of anyone requiring transport for medical treatment.

Franklin and Oil City fire departments, Seneca volunteer firefighters, Franklin police and Community Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

Firefighters were still at the location at 9 p.m., according to Venango County 911.
