Franklin library looking for Halloween costume donations

From staff reports

The Franklin Public Library is starting a new collection, but not of paper and ink.

“We just thought we were a good spot where parents could drop off costumes or pick one out,” branch manager Zoe Oakes said.

The library has been collecting donations all month of gently used Halloween costumes, but thus far, only has seven.

“We’re really just looking for last year’s leftovers,” said Oakes.

The idea for the exchange is twofold, Oakes said. It offers costumes a second chance to scare friends and neighbors and also gives kids the opportunity to wear a costume that might not have been in their parents’ budget this year.

“I know I have two little boys at home and they wear their costumes once, then they go in the toy box,” said Oakes. “We’re just asking the community to go through the toy boxes and see what they have.”

Oakes said costumes can be dropped off during the library’s regular business hours.

The donations will be open for choosing Oct. 28.
