New page on county website lists vaccine info

Venango County has launched a new page on its website dedicated to listing places in Venango County where the coronavirus vaccine will be publicly available as well as other relevant information related to the vaccine.

County commissioners said a goal with the page is “consistency and redundancy” so that all information is readily available.

“We saw a need for it (an aggregate site of vaccine information), so we did it,” commissioners chairman Sam Breene said. “It is a fluid site. We will be adding and removing locations as the situation continues,” Breene added.

Individual pharmacies and other health care providers are the ones administering the vaccines and scheduling the vaccinations, Breene said. The webpage seeks to compile that information to show all the places in Venango County where the vaccines will be publicly distributed, Breene said.

“There is so much information we needed to aggregate it and point people to state sites,” commissioner Mike Dulaney said.

While recognizing it can be frustrating for people to go to a web page for a health care provider and not be able to sign up immediately, Breene said all the locations listed on the county website are sites that will be providing vaccinations.

“We know the vaccines have been made available to them. Supply has been the big issue,” Breene said.

The health care providers listed on the county site are “offering the ability to schedule and have access to the vaccine,” Breene said.

The Venango County website is www.co.venango.pa.us. As of Tuesday, the site listed Rite Aid, the Giant Eagle pharmacy and Darling’s Pharmacy on Grandview Road in Oil City as sites where people can sign up to be vaccinated.

Decisions about how many people to sign up, the timing of the vaccine administration and other administrative details are up to the individual providers, not the county, Breene said.

“A question we get asked frequently is what to do if people don’t have internet access,” Dulaney said. He noted there is a Pennsylvania Department of Health hotline at (877) 724-3258 for people to call for vaccine information.

Dulaney said county residents can also contact the commissioners by email, phone or Facebook.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health website, www.health.pa.gov, also has information regarding where vaccinations can be obtained in the state and who can obtain them.
