James W. Lovell of Porter Township will celebrate his 90th birthday on Sept. 1, marking a life rich in family, hard work, and adventure. Born in 1935, Jim married his sweetheart Linda in 1957 before serving in the U.S. Army and later working in the coal industry, where he retired as a supervisor in 1993. Together, they raised two daughters and eventually settled in Porter Township, where Jim has enjoyed nearly three decades of retirement filled with motorcycles, hunting, fishing, camping, and time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his humor and favorite phrase, “I’m finer than frog hair,” Jim remains active and full of life, earning the honor of being spotlighted in the Nifty at 90 series.
