OC man accused of strangling woman

From staff reports

An Oil City man is facing charges for strangling a woman Monday at a residence in Oil City during a dispute.

Oil City police said in a criminal complaint they responded to the home on Hoffman Avenue at about 10 a.m. Monday where Leonard Vann, 36, and a woman said they had gotten into a verbal dispute.

The woman said the dispute turned physical and Vann grabbed her, pushed her up against a wall and used his arm to apply pressure to her neck, impeding her breathing, the complaint said.

Then she said he picked her up and threw her to the floor, causing her back pain, the complaint said.

The woman’s daughter said she heard a thud and went to see what it was and found her mother on the floor on her back, the complaint said.

Vann was charged with a felony count of strangulation and misdemeanor counts of harassment and simple assault.

He was arraigned Monday and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled July 19 in Central Court.
