Oil Creek State Park summer biathlon set Aug. 12

Friends of Oil Creek State Park and the Pennsylvania Biathlon Club will sponsor the 18th anniversary summer biathlon at the park’s cross country ski area in Petroleum Center on Saturday, Aug. 12.

The race, which begins at 10 a.m., will be the last summer biathlon for the two groups.

First timers are welcome and all equipment is provided.

The biathlon is open to all athletes 12 and older who complete the mandatory pre-race safety clinic to be held at 8:30 a.m. on race day.

Check in for first time participants will be from 7 to 8 a.m., and check in for experienced participants will be from 7 to 9 a.m.

Only standard velocity ammunition can be used, and a familiarization safety clinic that is mandatory for first time participants will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The field size will be limited to the first 100 registrants. Entries received after the limit has been reached will be returned promptly.

A non-refundable/non-transferrable registration fee of $25 is required for entry.

Checks should be made payable to John Sims. Participants should write “Oil Creek State Park Biathlon” in the memo line.

The park is located at 305 State Park Road.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Friends of Oil Creek State Park volunteer group and the Pennsylvania Biathlon Club.
