Dylan VanWormer, a junior at Oil City High School, has been named the recipient of the annual Cole McMahon “Heart of Gold” Memorial Award, which honors the legacy of the 2001 graduate who was killed in a 2006 car accident while on his way to teach at Fort LeBoeuf High School. Selected through input from teachers, administrators and coaches, the award recognizes a student who exemplifies McMahon’s work ethic and dedication as a student, athlete, coach and educator. VanWormer will receive a one-year membership to the Oil City YMCA, where his name will be added to the Heart of Gold plaque; the YMCA also maintains a scholarship fund in McMahon’s memory to support memberships and programming.
