Route 77 is expected to be closed from May 12 through late August for construction at the intersection with Route 8 in Bloomfield Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said in a press release.
A detour will be posted using Route 408, Route 8 and Route 89, the release said.
The closure is necessary as part of a project to increase driver visibility by realigning Route 77 near Route 8 and install a new flashing beacon at the intersection, according to the release. Work will also include improvements to the roadway shoulders, asphalt and concrete paving and upgrades to drainage, signs and pavement markings.
Motorists may also encounter temporary lane restrictions and traffic pattern shifts with traffic controlled by flaggers on Route 8, the release said.
The contractor is Glen O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College.
The contract cost is $2,994,994, which is being funded with a combination of state and federal money, the release said.
