School club shares Christmas’ story through Bible distribution

Members of the Ignite Bible Club at Cranberry Area High School wanted to share the original Christmas story with their fellow students. The best way to do it, they determined, was with the book that serves as the inspiration for the club’s 80 members.

The story contained in Bibles the club distributed to both club members and other students who sought them during this week’s club meeting at the school were donated from local businesses, individuals and community organizations. In all, 80 Bibles were donated.

The idea for the distribution started when a student approached club adviser Trisha Dixon.

“I had a student who came to me and said she was having trouble reading her Bible,” Dixon said. “It was her grandmother’s Bible, a King James version.

“I told her the Bible is difficult to read, but it got me to thinking that other students may have the same problem. The King James version is not easy to read. For teenagers it is difficult.”

Dixon thought a study guide would help interpret the Bible for the students. There is one designed for boys and one for girls. Every student who received a Bible also received a study guide.

“Being part of a club that distributes Bibles to kids who might not receive them otherwise means a lot to me,” Cranberry senior Isabella Whitling said. “I think the study guide will be a big help to the kids. It will help kids relate the Bible to their own lives.

“It is such a blessing that we are able to do this; especially at this time of year.”

Dixon said it is “amazing” how many kids want a paper copy of the Bible. “They could get it online, but they want to hold it.”

Ignite has 80 members, making it the largest club at Cranberry.

“I have never seen anything like this,” Pastor Joe Gibson, of Cranberry Community Church, said. “It seems like every time we meet with the Ignite group it gets larger.

“We are so excited in our church to see what the club is doing; the revival begins in the schools. It does something in my heart to see the way God is entering the lives of these students.”
