United Way to host annual Hair Affair event

From staff reports

Students in Venango County school districts can once again receive free haircuts during the United Way of Venango County’s third annual Back to School: Hair Affair.

This year’s event, on Monday, Aug. 23, will be held at multiple salon locations in Venango County. Stylists at Clark’s Clippers, Designing Concepts, Razor’s Edge, and Sutch’s Beauty Salon will donate their time to provide area kids with basic haircuts so they can start the school year with confidence, according to a press release from the United Way.

In addition to haircuts, participants will also be provided with supplies to begin the year. Bill Baker is donating backpacks and school supplies and Oil City Vineyard Church is donating hair care supplies.

Pre-registration for the event is required and can be done by contacting PA 211. Parents or guardians may call 2-1-1 or text 898-211 to schedule a 20-minute appointment for their child’s haircut.

All appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Both previous Hair Affair events were extremely successful, providing 153 students with free haircuts last year and 170 students with cuts in 2019, the United Way said.

“This event has been incredibly beneficial in past years and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to help prepare children for school again this year,” said Will Price, the United Way executive director. “Every stylist involved is a treasure to our community and I would like to thank them for being so kind-hearted and generous with their time and talents,” Price added.
