“Yonder Mountain,” an original operetta by local composer John Krumich, premieres tonight at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin. Set in post-Civil War Appalachia, the allegorical tale follows a father who shelters his daughter, Ada, in a treehouse as suitors and a mysterious figure named Flora Hawkins appear. With themes of adolescence, freedom, and fatherhood, the story is brought to life by a six-person ensemble, a seven-piece pit orchestra, and authentic Appalachian songs woven into Krumich’s score. Directed by Almi Clerkin and produced by Zachary Covington, the cast features Emilie Weaver as Ada, Andrea Fenske as Flora, Cameron Ashbaugh-McKenzie as the traveler, and Shawn Clerkin as the preacher. Performances run this weekend at the Barrow-Civic and continue next weekend at the Sawmill Theatre in Cook Forest.
