Man facing trespass, resisting arrest charges

A transient Oil City man is facing charges for hiding in the attic of a condemned home in Oil City and resisting arrest.

Oil City police said in a criminal complaint they were sent at about 3:30 p.m. Friday to the condemned residence on Lewis Alley to help Venango County sheriff’s deputies who were apprehending Cory Deeter, 33, on warrants.

While police and sheriff’s deputies searched the residence for Deeter, they noticed an attic door in the ceiling of an upstairs bedroom and tried to pull the ladder down, but it wouldn’t come down, the complaint said.

Some wood broke off the entrance to the attic when police pulled on it and police were able to see that the ladder wouldn’t come down because Deeter was in the attic holding on to it, the complaint said.

When police got the ladder down, Deeter moved back into the attic and began throwing items through the trap door into the attic to prevent officers from getting into the attic, according to the complaint.

Police took Deeter into custody without further incident, the complaint said.

He was arraigned Monday on a felony count of criminal trespass and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, and he was placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled May 10 in Venango County Central Court.
