Breast cancer awareness event ‘all set to go’ in Franklin

The annual Pink Splash for the Cure, an observance designed to raise public awareness of breast cancer and raise money for research and treatment, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Franklin.

“We’re all set to go,” said Cheryl Carson, chairman of the Pink Splash planning committee. “Everyone is invited to come.”

The observance, launched in 2007 in Franklin’s Fountain Park, features the pink dyeing of water in the Egbert Fountain. Breast cancer survivors join in coloring the fountain waters.

On tap in the park will be the sale of 2019 versions of Splash for the Cure sweatshirts and T-shirts. All proceeds go to the Kirtland Cancer Foundation in Franklin. The foundation offers charitable assistance to cancer patients and their families in the Venango County area, regardless of where treatments are received.

The apparel is on sale now through Tuesday at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce office at 255 Liberty St.

New to the Pink Splash event this year is a handmade quilt by Diane Alsworth, of the Franklin area.

“It is made of parts of all the Pink Splash shirts, from 2008 until now, that were quilted into a blanket,” said Carson. “It is on display at the chamber and will be raffled off in the park on Tuesday.”

Serving with Carson on the Pink Splash committee are treasurer Connie Baughman and secretary Roz Greggs. Other members of the core committee are Shirl Baughman, Kim Slater-Heil and Kathy Horner.
