Oil City man accused of burglary

An Oil City man has been charged with breaking into a residence on North Street in Oil City on Monday.

At about 5 p.m., Oil City police responded to a residence and found Cory Deeter, 30, in the basement, according to a criminal complaint filed by Oil City police.

Deeter came out of the house carrying two bags of items and a rifle, the complaint said.

Deeter was immediately placed into custody, and he told police the renter of the house had given him permission to be there and retrieve the items, the complaint said.

The renter and the homeowner both told police that Deeter didn’t have permission to be at the residence, according to the complaint.

Police said they found an iPad, cellphone, knives and other items in the bags Deeter was carrying, the complaint said.

Deeter has been charged with felony counts of burglary- overnight accommodation, criminal trespass- enter structure and a misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking- movable property.

He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Matthew Kirtland and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail.

Deeter’s preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday before Kirtland.
