Sugarcreek Assistant Borough Manager Speth charged with DUI

James Speth, a former Sugarcreek Borough Council member and current assistant borough manager, has been charged with misdemeanor DUI following a Nov. 26 traffic stop in Rocky Grove, according to Sugarcreek Borough police. Officers reported signs of impairment, including the odor of alcohol and bloodshot eyes, and a toxicology report later confirmed alcohol influence. Speth resigned from council in June after eight years and was appointed assistant borough manager with plans to assume the manager role in 2026; his preliminary hearing had not been scheduled as of Tuesday.
