Woman accused of refusing to leave Sheetz, resisting police

A transient Franklin woman is facing charges for refusing to leave Sheetz in Franklin Sunday morning.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint they were called at about 7 a.m. Sunday to the Sheetz on Liberty Street for a woman later identified as Rebecca Peterson, 39, who had been at Sheetz all night and refused to leave.

Peterson had arrived at Sheetz before 11 p.m. Saturday and had made purchases at the store and went back to her vehicle that was parked by a gas pump, the complaint said.

She appeared to be having car trouble and Sheetz workers tried to help her but she refused help and refused to move her vehicle, the complaint said.

When police arrived and contacted a towing company, Peterson refused to allow her vehicle to be towed, although it was inoperable at the time, the complaint said.

Sheetz management, in the presence of police, told Peterson to leave the property and she refused, according to the complaint.

When police told her she was under arrest for trespassing and tried to remove her from her vehicle, she resisted them, the complaint said.

Police found five yellow wrappers of Buprenorphine and Naloxone Sublingual film in Peterson’s jacket pocket, and she refused to tell police if she had a valid prescription, the complaint said.

Peterson was charged with a felony count of criminal trespass as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and possession of controlled substances, the complaint said.

She was arraigned Sunday and placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied because she was already out of jail on bail.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled March 23 in Central Court.
