Conservancy completes annual river cleanup

From staff reports

The Allegheny Valley Conservancy held its annual Allegheny River cleanup on Saturday.

Volunteers started at the Oil City Marina and cleaned the section of the river to the Franklin trailhead at the Eighth Street bridge.

Prizes were awarded to Roger Aaron and Ellen Tygart.

Sponsors for the event included the Venango Conservation District, Cranberry Township, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Venango County Regional Planning Commission-Recycling.

Klapec Trucking provided a trash container for the project. Other area businesses that helped support the cleanup work included Walmart, Tractor Supply, Core Goods and the Foxburg Winery.

The conservancy is a nonprofit dedicated to the protection of environmentally important areas in the French Creek and Allegheny River watersheds.
