Silver Cornet Band to mark 160th anniversary

The Silver Cornet Band of Franklin will present its 160th anniversary concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bandstand Park in Franklin.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature local vocalist TC Marshall in addition to many classical and contemporary pieces performed by the band.

The concert is free and open to the public. The Venango County Historical Society will host an ice cream social in conjunction with the concert.

The Silver Cornet Band is celebrating its 160th anniversary this season. Formed in 1856, the band is one of the oldest community bands in the country.

The all-volunteer band includes members ranging from high school students to members boasting more than 70 years of service.
