Sugarcreek approves allotment for Reno fire department

Sugarcreek Borough Council on Wednesday voted to approve a $25,000 allotment and $2,000 for vehicle insurance for the Reno Volunteer Fire Department.

Borough administrator Joe Sporer said he has already received most of the tax credit paperwork from the fire departments that service the borough.

“It’s about that time of year for the Act 122 tax credits for the fire departments,” Sporer said.

In another matter Wednesday, borough police chief Bob Wenner said the department is increasing shifts for two part-time officers.

“We should be back up to a good position,” Wenner said.

Councilman James Speth asked Wenner what the status is for purchasing new police vehicles. Wenner said the department didn’t budget for a new cruiser this year and doesn’t currently need any new vehicles.

Wenner and councilman Larry Baughman both commended the borough’s road crew for consistently working quickly when clearing the roads of snow.
